NEWS RELEASE
Washington DC - July 17, 2012 – St. Luke’s Health System’s Boise and Meridian Medical Centers have been ranked as high performing in seven specialty areas by U.S. News & World Report.
St. Luke’s rankings are featured in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-13 Best Hospitals rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.
The rankings, annually published by U.S. News & World Report for the past 23 years, showcase more than 720 of the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals. Fewer than 150 are nationally ranked in at least one of 16 medical specialties. The rest of the recognized hospitals met a standard of performance nearly as demanding.
St. Luke’s was ranked No. 2 in Idaho for the quality of its care and was noted as being high performing in:
- Cancer
- Diabetes and endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- Geriatrics
- Gynecology
- Pulmonology
- Urology
“It’s an honor to receive national recognition for the quality of care at St. Luke’s,” said Chris Roth, CEO of St. Luke’s Treasure Valley. “National rankings are an important benchmark to assure we remain on track to deliver the highest quality care to our community and to deliver on our mission of improving the health of people in our region.”
U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow said the rankings are an aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges.
“All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” Comarow said. “They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases.”
The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, available in August.
